Chanticleer National Senior Invitational

Tournament Vision

The Chanticleer National Senior Invitational started in 2011 with the vision that it would provide a superbly conditioned, very challenging course on which to present a premier invitational tournament for elite senior and super senior golfers recognized for their playing accomplishments on a national and international scale. The limited field is determined from the pool of applicants with preference given to players' performance in national and international events as well as the current rankings. As an integral part of our vision, we provide extraordinary hospitality and great value to both our players and their significant others.

Congratulations to our 2017 champions.  Todd Hendley of Greer, SC captured the Senior title winning with a 54 hole total of 215. This was the first three round total under par in tournament history!  Tim Miller of Venice, FL claimed the Super Senior Championship by edging Neil Spitalny of Chattanooga, TN by one shot, shooting a 54 hole total of 219.  Don Wood of Louisville, KY captured the Legends title winning with a 54 hole total of 219, beating his nearest competitor by 5 strokes.

The eighth annual Chanticleer National Senior Invitational will be held May 30th-June 1st. A practice round will be allowed on Tuesday, May 29. The format for the tournament will be 54 hole stroke play on Greenville Country Club's Chanticleer course.

***This event has been awarded 1,000 points by Golfweek, and will be a counting event for World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points***

The Senior Division competition will be for players 55-64, as well as other older qualified players who may desire to play in this division. The Super Senior division will be for players 65-70, as well as other older qualified players who prefer to play at Chanticleer. The field in both divisions will be very limited, as is our tradition, with an emphasis on attracting the highest ranked senior amateurs, both domestic and international, who desire to compete for the World Amateur Ranking Points associated with our event which are awarded by the R&A. There will be a cut after 36 holes.

As an option for Grand Masters, we will host a separate 70+ Grand Masters division at our Riverside course provided we have a minimum number of 16 players. Riverside has all new greens and practice facilities and adjoins our new clubhouse located less than a mile from Chanticleer. The golf course provides a great test for Grand Masters because it will play around 6000 yards with a slope lower than Chanticleer. If we have this division, players and wives will participate at all Chanticleer events. There will NOT be a cut.

"Greenville Country Club's Chanticleer course will be an excellent venue for a national senior invitational. Chanticleer entered Golf Digest's list of top-100 courses in America immediately after it opened 40 years ago. Robert Trent Jones laid out the course over terrain ideally suited for golf. The rolling topography and ubiquitous streams have provided a canvas for an old style golf course with a truly unique collection of golf holes. Although Chanticleer contains some strong, demanding holes, length is not the overwhelming aspect of the course. There is a wide variety of angles and options on both tee and approach shots and the green surfaces are well contoured to the degree that proper placement and putting are a must. Strategy and accuracy will be at a premium for the tournament, as mastering the Chanticleer course will require excellence in each phase of the game." -Rees Jones, world famous golf course architect responsible for Chanticleer's 2002 renovation
